One of my favorite songwriters, John Hiatt, gave me one of my favorite interviews on the occasion of the release of his 20th solo album, Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns. He talked with me about the process of making the album and how a new producer helped usher in some new sounds but also touched upon the whole of his experience in the music industry. The Little Village era came up as did Bob Dylan covering one his songs The “Usual” along with the circumstances around that song and his relationship to Dylan. I have a great memory of John saying he thought it was one of the best conversations he had with a microphone on.
