Pop.1280: Intense Album Release Show At Silent Barn
Pop.1280 has nothing to do with pop. They are named after the excellent Jim Thompson novel Pop.1280 which is a reference to the population of a small Texas county that a homicidal sheriff presides over. Ivan Lipp and Chris Bug, who were childhood pals around Worcester Massachusetts, started the band about 8 years ago in Greenpoint. Their first full-length was called The Horror in 2012. Among other ins and outs, they added Allegra Sauvage who helped write the charmingly titled follow-up Imps of Perversion in 2013. Now they’ve unleashed Paradise…
They were supposed to have an album-release show at Alphaville a few weeks ago but they were snowed out by Jonas. On Thursday the 11th, on a bitterly cold night, Pop.1280 made good at the nifty DIY joint Silent Barn on Bushwick Ave. Drummer Andy Chugg is still in the band. Matt Sullivan, formerly of Pawns, is ably touring with them through the East this month and Europe in the Spring.
