Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters, evidently with full bellies, will invade the Beacon in less than two hours.  Set time is 9p.  Opener, and fellow Brit singer/songwriter, Seth Lakeman – who plays fiddle on Plant’s latest album Carry Fire, will take the stage shortly after 8.  This show has been sold out for months but apparently a few tickets were released today as some are now available.

 The sensational Space Shifters lineup has been steady for the past 7 years or so.  It features Justin Adams and Liam (Skin) Tyson on guitars, John Baggott – whose resume includes work with Portishead and Massive Attack – on keys, Billy Fuller on bass and Dave Smith on drums.Carry Fire includes a duet with Chrissy Hynde entitled Bluebirds Over the Mountain.   The good word is Robert and Chrissy will be doing shows together this summer including an as yet unannounced show at Forest Hills so if you’re not turning up to the venue tonight, you should have another bite at the apple this summer…

Robert Plant is at The Capital Theatre tomorrow night Thursday 9-17-2015 and the Hammerstein Ballroom on Friday.  The former Led Zeppelin frontman is enjoying playing relatively intimate venues while Jimmy Page recently wrapped up his top to bottom remastering of the Led Zeppelin catalog.

Golden God Robert Plant played a deuce at BAM as part of the 50th anniversary of Nonesuch Records and John Mayer was part of an event in Times Square announcing Rock in Rio setting up in Las Vegas. Les Tambours du Bronx who aren’t from the Bronx but who are mad performed with Sepultura as well.

Brilliant night with Plant and a worthy opening set from the man who shares a name with his band Phosphorescent.

This past Tuesday was one of the more exciting days I can remember as I was lucky enough to attend the premiere of Celebration Day – a Led Zeppelin concert film at MOMA followed by a press conference with none other than Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham.

The movie documents the concert at London’s O2 arena from five years ago (December 10, 2007) with no backstage shots, interviews, or distractions of any kind. The performance was KILLER! Any indulgences they might have allowed themselves in the 70s were omitted leaving only a definitive statement of their might.
