Television's Marquee Moon is one of those albums like Superfly or Electric Warrior that separates a great CD collection from a good one. Seeing Television, even 27 years after that stunning debut album came out, is the kind of thing that would make up for not owning it and raise your hip quotient among pals who tend to like bands that were more appreciated in Britain than the States. The riveting guitar yin-yang between Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd (who charged Matthew Sweet's best records of the early nineties) outstrips all but the finest moments of their CBGBs' contemporaries.
After originally breaking up in 78', they surfaced briefly for an underrated third album in 92' and have played sporadically this century. At the Paradise, Wednesday, March 24. -Eric Holland
